Overview

SC79 is a unique, cell-permeable small molecule that acts as a direct activator of AKT (Protein Kinase B). Unlike most AKT modulators that function as inhibitors, SC79 binds to the pleckstrin homology (PH) domain of AKT. This binding mimics the interaction of phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5)-trisphosphate (PIP3) with the PH domain, inducing a conformational change that facilitates the phosphorylation and subsequent activation of AKT by upstream kinases such as PDK1 and mTORC2. By promoting AKT signaling, SC79 has demonstrated neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and metabolic regulatory effects in various preclinical models, including retinitis pigmentosa, chronic heart failure, and polycystic ovary syndrome. In oncology research, it is frequently utilized as a tool compound to validate the role of the PI3K/AKT pathway in tumor progression, chemoresistance, and metabolic reprogramming.
