Overview

Scallop-derived plasmalogens are ethanolamine phospholipids (EPls) extracted from the Japanese scallop (Pecten yessoensis) using patented technology developed at Kyushu University. These compounds are intended to replenish plasmalogen levels in the brain, which are significantly reduced in patients with neurodegenerative diseases. The therapeutic mechanism includes the suppression of neuroinflammation, protection against oxidative stress and neuronal apoptosis, promotion of neurogenesis, and reduction of amyloid-β protein accumulation. Clinical studies have demonstrated that oral supplementation with 1 mg/day of these plasmalogens can improve cognitive function in individuals with mild Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Currently, the product is marketed as a dietary supplement under the brand name NeuroREGAIN rather than as a prescription pharmaceutical.
