Scar Ban Elastic is a medical device, specifically a silicone-based elastic sheet or bandage, designed for the management and prevention of abnormal scarring, such as hypertrophic and keloid scars. It is frequently utilized in the treatment of scars resulting from burns, surgical incisions, or trauma. The primary mechanism of action involves providing a semi-occlusive barrier over the scar tissue, which significantly reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL). This increased hydration of the stratum corneum is thought to modulate the activity of fibroblasts and reduce the production of excess collagen, thereby softening, flattening, and improving the overall appearance and elasticity of the scar. In clinical research conducted by the University Hospital, Ghent, Scar Ban Elastic was evaluated for its comparative efficacy in skin occlusion and hydration against other silicone gels and hydrating creams.
