Overview

SCB-2019 is a recombinant trimeric spike (S) protein subunit vaccine developed for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine contains a stabilized, pre-fusion form of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein produced in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells and formulated with adjuvants such as CpG 1018 (a TLR9 agonist from Dynavax Technologies) and aluminum hydroxide or AS03 (from GSK). The S-protein is fused with Trimer-Tag to preserve its native trimeric structure, enhancing immunogenicity. SCB-2019 induces protective immunity by stimulating neutralizing antibody responses against SARS-CoV-2, including various variants. Clinical trials have shown efficacy against symptomatic and severe COVID-19 cases. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly in two doses four weeks apart and remains stable under standard refrigeration[1][2][3][4][5][6].
