Overview

SCD-2101 is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for the treatment of functional constipation, specifically targeting elderly populations. The formulation is a liquid decoction consisting of four herbs, administered twice daily. It is based on or related to the traditional 'MaZiRenWan' (Hemp Seed Pill) formula, which typically includes hemp seed, rhubarb, officinal magnolia bark, and bitter apricot seed. SCD-2101 is currently being evaluated in pilot clinical studies to determine its safety and efficacy in improving stool frequency and consistency in patients aged 60 and older. It is closely related to the botanical drug candidate CDD-2101, which is also developed by HKBU's Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development.
