Overview

Schinus molle pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Peruvian peppertree (Schinus molle). [8] It is a biologic product used for both diagnosing and treating allergies to this specific pollen. For diagnosis, it is administered via percutaneous (prick) or intradermal skin tests to identify sensitization. For treatment, it is used in subcutaneous immunotherapy, a process that involves administering gradually increasing doses of the allergen to help the immune system build tolerance and reduce the severity of allergic symptoms upon natural exposure. The extract was first approved in the United States in 1941.
