Schisandrin b is a dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan isolated from the fruit of Schisandra chinensis. It is widely studied for its **antioxidant**, **anti-inflammatory**, **hepatoprotective**, **cardioprotective**, **neuroprotective**, and **antitumor** properties. Its mechanism of action involves upregulating the cellular antioxidant response, increasing the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione-related enzymes, and directly scavenging reactive oxygen species. It inhibits key inflammatory pathways, including TNF-α and IL-1β, and modulates neuroinflammation via toll-like receptor–mediated pathways (suppressing NF-κB signaling). In cancer models, schisandrin b induces apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and inhibits cell proliferation, invasion, and migration by acting on pathways such as PI3K/Akt/mTOR, and matrix metalloproteinases. Schisandrin b exhibits low toxicity in animal studies and is under active preclinical research as a potential therapeutic for tumors, liver disorders, cardiovascular conditions, and neurodegenerative diseases[1][3][6].
