Drug intelligence / Profile preview
*Schistosoma japonicum* soluble egg antigen (SjSEA) is a complex mixture of proteins and glycoproteins secreted by the eggs of the parasitic flatworm *Schistosoma japonicum*. SjSEA exhibits potent immunomodulatory properties, primarily characterized by its ability to shift the host immune response from a pro-inflammatory Th1/Th17 profile toward an anti-inflammatory Th2/Treg profile. It has been shown to modulate the IL-17/IL-10 cytokine balance, promote M2 macrophage polarization, and activate fatty acid metabolism pathways. SjSEA is being investigated in preclinical models for a variety of immune-mediated and inflammatory conditions, including androgenetic alopecia (AGA), skin graft rejection, type 2 diabetes, colitis, and hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. In models of androgenetic alopecia, subcutaneous administration of SjSEA has been shown to improve hair regrowth and reduce follicular miniaturization by suppressing IL-17 signaling and restoring metabolic-immune homeostasis.
