Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Schizonepeta spike is a crude herbal drug derived from the dried flower spike of *Schizonepeta tenuifolia* Briquet (commonly known as Japanese catnip). It is a traditional medicine widely used in East Asian countries, including China, Japan, and Korea, and is officially listed in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia. The herb is traditionally utilized to promote sweating, reduce fever, detoxify, and improve skin conditions. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of common colds, fevers, respiratory tract infections, and allergic dermatitis. In its charred form (Schizonepetae Spica Carbonisata), it is primarily used to stop bleeding, such as in bloody stool and metrorrhagia. The chemical profile of schizonepeta spike includes volatile organic compounds (such as menthone, limonene, and pulegone), flavonoids (such as apigenin-7-O-glucoside, luteolin glucoside, and hesperidin), and organic acids.
