Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Schmallenberg virus antigen is a veterinary vaccine antigen derived from Schmallenberg virus and used in inactivated viral vaccines for cattle and sheep to induce active immunity against Schmallenberg virus infection. In marketed products, the antigen is presented as whole inactivated virus, with protection mediated by antigen presentation to the host immune system and induction of neutralizing and other antiviral immune responses rather than by direct pharmacologic receptor modulation. The best-defined commercial example is the inactivated Schmallenberg virus strain BH80/11-4 antigen used in the veterinary vaccine Zulvac SBV, developed and marketed by Zoetis for prevention of Schmallenberg virus disease and reduction of viremia and transplacental infection in breeding animals.
