Overview

Scintimax (99mTc-fosleucinocan) is an approved radiopharmaceutical diagnostic imaging agent developed by Scintec Diagnostics and TheraPharm GmbH, which was subsequently acquired by Telix Pharmaceuticals. It is a technetium-99m-labeled small molecule ligand that specifically targets CD66 (CEACAM8), a protein highly expressed on the surface of neutrophils and tumor-infiltrating leukocytes. Upon intravenous administration, Scintimax accumulates at sites of active infection and inflammation where neutrophils are concentrated, enabling the visualization and localization of bone infections (osteomyelitis) through nuclear medicine imaging (SPECT). The drug is particularly indicated for the diagnosis of suspected bone infections in clinical scenarios where conventional imaging techniques may be inconclusive, providing a targeted method to detect neutrophil-rich pathology.
