SCN-106 is a biosimilar thrombolytic agent being developed by Scienture LLC, modeled after the reference product Cathflo Activase (alteplase). It is a recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), a purified glycoprotein synthesized using complementary DNA for natural human tPA in a Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell line. SCN-106 functions by binding to fibrin within blood clots and catalyzing the conversion of entrapped plasminogen to plasmin, which initiates local fibrinolysis and dissolves the clot. The drug is intended for cardiovascular use in hospital settings, specifically for thrombolytic therapy such as restoring function to occluded central venous access devices. Scienture is developing the product in collaboration with Anthem Biosciences.
