Overview

**Scoparia dulcis extract** is a botanical product derived from the whole or partial plant (Scoparia dulcis L.), used primarily as an herbal supplement or phytodrug. It is not a standardized pharmaceutical but a complex mixture containing multiple bioactive compounds such as flavonoids (including quercetin, luteolin, apigenin), terpenoids (glutinol, glutinone), phenolic acids (chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid), and other constituents[1][2][3][5][6]. Mechanistically, it exerts antidiabetic effects by reducing fasting blood glucose, increasing plasma insulin, stimulating insulin secretion, inhibiting intestinal enzymes (α-glucosidase and amylase), and upregulating glucose transporter-4 (Glut 4) expression. Additionally, it exhibits antihyperlipidemic, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, and cytoprotective actions through modulation of cytokine levels, protection of antioxidant enzymes, inhibition of lipid peroxidation, and suppression of cellular apoptosis and senescence[1][3][4][6]. Scoparia dulcis extract is commonly used in folk and traditional medicine for metabolic syndrome (especially diabetes), inflammation, arthritis, liver protection, and may have effects on cardiovascular health and cancer cell cytotoxicity. No single company or developer standardizes or owns the extract; multiple herbal and supplement manufacturers market formulations under various local or international brand names.
