Overview

Scopolamine + propofol is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used together, typically in the context of anesthesia or procedural sedation. Scopolamine is a belladonna alkaloid with anticholinergic properties, primarily used to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness and postoperative states. It acts as an antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors, thereby inhibiting cholinergic transmission in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues[4][8]. Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic agent used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia or sedation. It works mainly by potentiating GABA-A receptor activity, leading to CNS depression[1][3]. When combined, scopolamine may be administered as a premedication to reduce secretions and prevent nausea/vomiting during procedures where propofol provides rapid-onset hypnosis/sedation.
