Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Scorpion Venom Antiserum is a biological product indicated for the treatment of scorpion envenomation. Developed and manufactured by Lexicare Pharma, it consists of venom-neutralizing antibodies, typically purified from the plasma of healthy horses (equine) that have been immunized against the venom of specific scorpion species (such as *Mesobuthus tamulus*). The antiserum provides passive immunity by binding to and neutralizing circulating neurotoxins in the victim's bloodstream. This neutralization prevents the toxins from interacting with their physiological targets, such as voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby mitigating severe systemic symptoms including autonomic storm, cardiovascular failure, and pulmonary edema.
