Overview

SCRI-CAR19 is an investigational, autologous CD19-targeted chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy designed to treat B cell malignancies, notably B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). It genetically engineers a patient’s own T-cells to express a CAR targeting the CD19 antigen, a surface marker present on nearly all B-lineage cells. The activation of these cells directs a cytotoxic immune response against malignant B cells. Notably, SCRI-CAR19 has been evaluated in a phase 2 trial, showing improved leukemia-free survival due to factors such as earlier intervention and enhanced CAR T cell persistence. Trials have also explored the use of CD19-expressing T cell antigen presenting cells to support CAR T cell function. SCRI-CAR19 is distinct from commercial CAR-T cell products, representing a development from Seattle Children's Research Institute in collaboration with other academic partners[1].
