Overview

SCT-c001 is an investigational, stem cell-enabled cellular therapy consisting of canine Neo-Islets, which are three-dimensional cellular organoids composed of an approximate 1:1 ratio of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and culture-expanded pancreatic islet cells. Developed by SymbioCellTech in collaboration with Virbac, SCT-c001 is specifically designed for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in dogs. The therapy leverages a proprietary 'natural encapsulation' mechanism wherein the adult MSC component provides local immune isolation, protecting the transplanted islet cells from host immune destruction and rejection without the need for artificial encapsulation devices or systemic immunosuppressive drugs. Administered via a minimally invasive intraperitoneal injection, the Neo-Islets spontaneously engraft into the omentum, undergo neo-vascularization, and secrete insulin and other islet hormones in a physiologically regulated manner to restore long-term euglycemia.
