SCT-h001 is an investigational cell therapy developed by SymbioCellTech for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes, including Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. The therapy utilizes proprietary "Neo-Islet" technology, which consists of three-dimensional aggregates of allogeneic pancreatic islet cells and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Unlike traditional islet transplantation, SCT-h001 is designed to be administered via intraperitoneal injection, where the Neo-Islets engraft onto the omentum and other serosal surfaces to function as a glucose-responsive, bio-artificial endocrine pancreas. The inclusion of MSCs provides essential immunomodulatory and cytoprotective effects, which are intended to prevent immune rejection and promote the long-term survival and function of the islet cells without the requirement for chronic systemic immunosuppression.
