Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SCT640C is a monoclonal antibody developed by SinoCellTech (神州细胞) as a biosimilar candidate for tocilizumab. It functions as an antagonist to the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R), binding to both soluble and membrane-bound forms of the receptor to block the pro-inflammatory signaling of interleukin-6 (IL-6). IL-6 is a key cytokine involved in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), where it drives systemic inflammation and joint destruction. SCT640C is currently undergoing early-stage clinical evaluation in China, with Phase Ia/Ib trials registered to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy in healthy volunteers and patients with active rheumatoid arthritis.
