Overview

Scutellaria barbata chloroform extract (ECSB) is a research-grade compound derived from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb *Scutellaria barbata* D. Don. It is primarily investigated for its antitumor properties in preclinical models of colorectal, colon, and cervical cancers. The extract functions by inducing apoptosis and inhibiting cell proliferation through the modulation of multiple molecular targets, including the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, cyclin D1, and cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4). Additionally, ECSB has been shown to regulate microRNA expression, specifically upregulating miR-34a and miR-195-5p, the latter of which targets LOXL2 to suppress malignant phenotypes. It also modulates key signaling pathways such as STAT3, ERK, and p38 MAPK. The active constituents of the extract include various flavonoids and diterpenoids.
