Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Scutellaria-Coptis granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation composed of extracts from *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin) and *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian). It is primarily developed and investigated by Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University, for the treatment of primary hypertension in patients diagnosed with 'heart-and-liver fire' syndrome according to TCM diagnostic criteria. The granules contain bioactive alkaloids and flavonoids, most notably berberine and baicalin, which are thought to exert antihypertensive effects through vasodilation, anti-inflammatory activity, and modulation of the autonomic nervous system. Clinical evaluation focuses on its ability to reduce blood pressure, improve sleep quality, and alleviate TCM-specific symptoms over a short-term treatment period.
