Overview

SCY-641 is a cyclophilin inhibitor and cyclosporine derivative developed by SCYNEXIS. It was primarily investigated for the treatment of ophthalmic diseases, specifically keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or "dry eye") in dogs. The compound was licensed to Dechra Pharmaceuticals for worldwide animal health applications in 2012, but the agreement was terminated in 2015 (effective May 2016), with all rights returning to SCYNEXIS. SCY-641 is part of SCYNEXIS's cyclophilin inhibitor platform, which also includes SCY-635. The drug's development was supported by a Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project (QTDP) grant from the U.S. Federal Government for its potential in treating ophthalmic diseases.
