Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SD II is a spray-dried inhalation formulation of BIBN 4096 BS, also known as olcegepant. BIBN 4096 BS is a potent and selective small molecule calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist. It was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for the acute treatment of migraine. Studies have shown that BIBN 4096 BS effectively blocks the effects of CGRP, a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathogenesis, by antagonizing CGRP receptors. This formulation was investigated for its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers via inhalation.
