SD118

SD118 is an orally administered small molecule drug under development for the treatment of neuropathic pain. It was originally investigated in Japan for a different indication but was later repurposed following animal model studies that demonstrated its potential as a novel therapy for neuropathic pain. The drug has undergone Phase I clinical trials, which were double-blind, placebo-controlled, and dose-escalation studies designed to evaluate safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy male volunteers. These trials showed that SD118 is safe and well tolerated at doses up to 2000 mg, with plasma concentrations increasing proportionally with dose. Mild nervous system-related adverse events (such as paraesthesia and hypoaesthesia) were reported at the highest tested doses but did not raise significant safety concerns.
