Overview

SDV1a is a synthetic bifunctional peptide designed to guide transplanted stem cells—particularly human neural stem cells—towards regions of tissue damage while minimizing inflammatory side effects. It is a chemically modified version of the endogenous chemokine CXCL12, engineered to retain high affinity for the receptor CXCR4 expressed on stem cells but without activating the inflammatory pathways typically triggered by native CXCL12. SDV1a acts as a chemoattractant, enhancing stem cell migration to pathological regions such as sites of neurodegeneration, and has been shown in animal models to extend lifespan, delay symptom onset, and improve motor function without provoking inflammation. Its primary intended use is as a combinational therapy with stem cells for neurodegenerative disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinal cord injury, and stroke, with potential applications under investigation for heart disease, arthritis, and brain cancer[1][2][3][4][7][9].
