Overview
SE Microbiome Complex is a patented, proprietary topical ingredient complex developed by DERMALA for the treatment of acne. It consists of a formulation of naturally occurring prebiotics and postbiotics, specifically derived from *Staphylococcus epidermidis*, designed to rebalance the skin microbiome (cutaneous microbiota). Its mechanism of action involves selectively killing *Cutibacterium acnes*, the primary bacteria associated with acne, while simultaneously promoting the growth of beneficial, acne-fighting commensal bacteria on the skin. Clinical studies indicate that the complex enhances the efficacy of salicylic acid in reducing acne lesion count and severity without the irritation typically associated with benzoyl peroxide or retinoids. It is used at concentrations of 1-4% in various topical products, including cleansers and treatment pads.
