Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Seal oil is a natural marine oil extracted from the blubber of various seal species, including bearded, gray, harbour, and harp seals. It is rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids—primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and notably docosapentaenoic acid (DPA). Seal oil is unique among marine oils for its high DPA content, which may enhance the integration of EPA and DHA in the body. The primary uses of seal oil are as a dietary supplement to support cardiovascular health by reducing triglycerides, supporting brain and nerve development in children, improving joint health through anti-inflammatory effects, and maintaining overall wellness. While traditional use includes prevention of depression and other ailments among Alaska Native populations, modern clinical evidence for specific disease benefits remains limited or uncertain[1][2][3][4].
