Seasonique

Seasonique is an extended-cycle combined oral contraceptive (COC) used to prevent pregnancy. It contains two active hormones: ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) and levonorgestrel (a progestin). The medication works primarily by inhibiting ovulation, altering the cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration, and modifying the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation. Seasonique is taken as a 91-day regimen—84 days of active hormone tablets followed by 7 days of low-dose estrogen tablets—which results in only four scheduled withdrawal bleeds per year. In addition to contraception, it may help regulate menstrual cycles, decrease menstrual blood loss and pain, lower the risk of ovarian cysts, and treat acne[1][2][3][5].
