Sebazole

Sebazole is a topical medicated shampoo developed by Virbac for veterinary use in dogs and cats. It is a multi-component small molecule formulation containing econazole nitrate (10mg/mL), sulphur (as sodium thiosulphate), sodium salicylate (35mg/mL), and chloroxylenol (5mg/mL). The product is indicated for the treatment of keratinisation disorders such as seborrhoea, particularly when complicated by secondary bacterial (Staphylococcal) or yeast (Malassezia) overgrowth. It is also effective against fungal infections including ringworm (Microsporum and Trichophyton species) and pyoderma. The therapeutic effect is achieved through the antifungal activity of econazole, the antibacterial properties of chloroxylenol, and the keratolytic and keratoplastic actions of sulphur and sodium salicylate, which remove scales and crusts while enhancing the penetration of the antimicrobial agents.
