Overview

**sec-butylpropylacetamide** is a small molecule amide derivative, described chemically as an acetamide with both a sec-butyl and a propyl group. It has been characterized in chemical databases such as PubChem and HMDB as a unique compound with molecular formula C9H19NO and molecular weight 157.25 g/mol[1][3]. Preclinical studies suggest sec-butylpropylacetamide (sometimes abbreviated as SPD) has anticonvulsant properties, showing activity in animal models of seizure. Its mechanism of action is not completely elucidated, but evidence suggests that, as with other acetamide derivatives, it may modulate neuronal excitability possibly via interaction with ion channels or enhancement of inhibitory neurotransmission, similar to the established anticonvulsant valproic acid[2]. It is considered a candidate for further investigation as an antiepileptic drug.
