Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HP-3070 (Secuado) is a transdermal patch formulation of asenapine, a second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic. Developed by Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical and its subsidiary Noven Pharmaceuticals, it utilizes a proprietary Transdermal Drug Delivery System (TDDS) to provide continuous delivery of asenapine over a 24-hour period. It was the first transdermal antipsychotic approved by the FDA for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. Asenapine's therapeutic effect is thought to be mediated through a combination of antagonist activity at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. The transdermal route offers an alternative to sublingual administration, potentially improving adherence and avoiding the need for twice-daily dosing or food/drink restrictions associated with the sublingual form.
