Seirogan Quick C

Seirogan Quick C is an oral antidiarrheal medication developed by Taiko Pharmaceutical, featuring wood creosote as its sole active ingredient. Unlike the traditional Seirogan pill formulation, which contains multiple botanical extracts, Quick C is delivered in a liquid-filled soft capsule designed for rapid dissolution and faster onset of action. Wood creosote, a mixture of phenolic compounds derived from wood tar, exerts its therapeutic effect by normalizing intestinal water metabolism—specifically by inhibiting excess fluid secretion and promoting absorption—and by regulating intestinal motility without suppressing natural peristalsis. It is widely used in Japan as an over-the-counter treatment for diarrhea, food poisoning, and water-induced distress. Clinical research, including the jRCTs041220146 trial, is currently evaluating its efficacy in managing metformin-induced gastrointestinal side effects, such as diarrhea, in patients with type 2 diabetes.
