Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sekkei Bio is developing an oral insulin formulation for the treatment of diabetes, including Type 1, Type 2, and cystic fibrosis-related diabetes. Utilizing its proprietary computational platform, Sq-PROT (a protein/peptide design tool), the company designs novel insulin analogs that are engineered to be resistant to gastrointestinal enzymatic degradation. These analogs are delivered via a specialized oral formulation technology designed to protect the peptide from the harsh environment of the gut while facilitating absorption into the bloodstream. The therapeutic goal is to provide a convenient oral alternative to traditional injectable insulin that activates the insulin receptor to regulate blood glucose levels. The program is currently in the discovery and preclinical stages, supported in part by a BIRAC Ignition Grant, with lead candidates having demonstrated activity in mouse and rat models.
