Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SEL-212 is a combination therapy designed for the treatment of chronic refractory gout. It consists of two components: pegadricase (SEL-037), a pegylated recombinant yeast-derived uricase enzyme, and ImmTOR (SEL-110), a biodegradable nanoparticle containing the immunosuppressant rapamycin (sirolimus). The pegadricase component works by metabolizing uric acid into allantoin, a highly soluble metabolite that is easily excreted by the kidneys. The ImmTOR component is specifically engineered to mitigate the formation of anti-drug antibodies (ADAs) against pegadricase, which is a common limitation of uricase-based therapies. By inducing immune tolerance, SEL-212 aims to provide sustained reduction in serum uric acid levels and dissolution of urate crystals (tophi). The drug is being developed through a partnership between Selecta Biosciences and Sobi (Swedish Orphan Biovitrum).
