Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SEL-rhBDNF is a recombinant human brain-derived neurotrophic factor (rhBDNF) therapeutic being developed by Manzanita Pharmaceuticals. It is specifically designed to target the BDNF signaling pathway for the treatment of optic pathway glioma, a form of cancer affecting the optic nerve. The drug is characterized in company literature as both a recombinant protein therapeutic and a small molecule drug-neurotrophin, suggesting a specialized formulation or mimetic approach to neurotrophin delivery. It is currently in the proof-of-concept (POC) stage of development, aiming to leverage the neuroprotective and signaling properties of BDNF to address oncological and neurodegenerative aspects of optic pathway gliomas.
