Overview

Selavino (also known as SIMM-101 or Selaviroc) is a small molecule CCR5 antagonist developed by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM) and Shanghai Desano Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It belongs to the class of HIV entry inhibitors, specifically targeting the C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) coreceptor on the surface of CD4+ T-cells. By binding allosterically to the CCR5 receptor, Selavino induces a conformational change that prevents the viral envelope glycoprotein gp120 from recognizing and binding to the host cell, thereby blocking the fusion and entry of R5-tropic HIV-1 strains. Designed as a second-generation CCR5 antagonist, Selavino aims to provide enhanced potency and improved pharmacokinetic properties compared to earlier agents like maraviroc. The drug has been evaluated in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and antiretroviral activity in both healthy volunteers and patients with HIV.
