Overview

Selected CD133+ cells refer to an investigational autologous cell therapy consisting of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) isolated from a patient's peripheral blood. Developed by researchers at Hospital San Carlos in Madrid, the therapy involves mobilizing progenitor cells using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), collecting them via apheresis, and selecting the CD133+ population using the CliniMACS system. The cells are then delivered via transendocardial injection into ischemic myocardial tissue, guided by electromechanical mapping (NOGA XP). The primary mechanism of action is therapeutic angiogenesis, where the progenitor cells promote the formation of new blood vessels to improve perfusion in patients with refractory angina who are not candidates for standard revascularization.
