Selenium amino acid chelate is a dietary supplement form of the essential trace mineral selenium, in which selenium is chemically bound (chelated) to an amino acid—most commonly glycine, forming compounds such as "selenium glycinate." This chelation is intended to improve the absorption and bioavailability of selenium compared to inorganic forms. Selenium functions primarily as a component of selenoproteins and enzymes with antioxidant properties, protecting cells from oxidative damage and supporting immune function. It also plays roles in thyroid hormone metabolism and DNA synthesis.
