Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Selenium-enriched *Akkermansia muciniphila* is an investigational next-generation probiotic and microbial therapeutic preparation produced by inorganic selenium bio-enrichment of *A. muciniphila*. Its selenium is predominantly present in organic, macromolecule-associated forms, including protein-bound, nucleic acid-bound, and polysaccharide-bound selenium. In preclinical work, Se-AM cell lysate showed concentration-dependent cytotoxicity against CT26 murine colon carcinoma cells, while Se-AM treatment reduced tumor burden and altered inflammatory cytokines and gut-microbiota composition in CT26 colon-tumor mouse models. It has no identified commercial sponsor, marketed product, clinical trial program, or approved human indication. ([link.springer.com](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12602-025-10713-0))
