Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Selenium-enriched green tea extract (Se-TE) is a research-grade botanical extract produced by enriching tea plants with selenium, typically through foliar application of selenite fertilizer. The resulting extract contains a high concentration of tea polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), alongside organic selenium compounds. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that Se-TE exhibits potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticarcinogenic activities, often showing superior efficacy compared to standard green tea extract or selenium alone. It has been investigated for the prevention and treatment of various conditions, including hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal cancer, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. While it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug, it is available as a dietary supplement and functional food ingredient.
