Selenium glycinate is a chelated form of the essential trace element selenium, where the selenium molecule is chemically bound to the amino acid glycine to enhance intestinal absorption and bioavailability. It serves as a critical precursor for the synthesis of selenoproteins, such as glutathione peroxidases (GPx), which play fundamental roles in antioxidant defense, DNA damage repair, and immune system regulation. In clinical research involving pediatric oncology patients, supplementation with selenium glycinate has been shown to reduce the incidence of febrile neutropenia during chemotherapy and modulate humoral immune responses, including the production of immunoglobulins like IgA, IgG, and IgE. By neutralizing reactive oxygen species, it helps protect immune cells and erythrocytes from oxidative stress-induced damage.
