Overview
Selenium nanoparticle capsules are an oral formulation of elemental selenium in nanoparticle form, currently being evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials as an adjunctive therapy for chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). Developed by the Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University, the drug is specifically targeted at CSU patients with elevated thyroid autoantibodies. The nanoparticle delivery system is intended to optimize the bioavailability and safety profile of selenium, which serves as a critical cofactor for antioxidant enzymes like glutathione peroxidase. By modulating oxidative stress and immune responses, these capsules aim to reduce urticaria symptoms and thyroid antibody levels when used in combination with standard-of-care treatments such as omalizumab.
