Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Selgantolimod + nivolumab** is an investigational combination therapy for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Selgantolimod is an oral small molecule agonist of Toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8), developed to stimulate innate immune responses and modulate antiviral immunity. Nivolumab is a monoclonal antibody checkpoint inhibitor targeting programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) that enhances T-cell mediated immune responses against infected or malignant cells. In combination, this regimen aims to suppress HBV antigens and restore HBV-specific immune response, moving towards a functional cure. Selgantolimod is developed by Gilead Sciences[1][2][3], while nivolumab (Opdivo) is developed and marketed by Bristol Myers Squibb. Clinical trials are underway (Phase 2) evaluating this combination (sometimes with additional agents such as VIR-2218 and tenofovir alafenamide)[2][3] for safety, tolerability, and efficacy in chronic HBV.
