Selotil

Selotil is an immunosuppressant medication manufactured by Pioneer Pharmaceuticals, a leading pharmaceutical company based in Iraq. It is a generic version of mycophenolate mofetil, which serves as a prodrug for mycophenolic acid (MPA). The drug's therapeutic effect is achieved through the reversible and non-competitive inhibition of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), an essential enzyme in the de novo pathway of purine nucleotide synthesis. Since lymphocytes (T and B cells) are uniquely dependent on this pathway for proliferation, Selotil selectively inhibits their expansion and reduces antibody production without affecting other cell types that can utilize salvage pathways. It is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis of organ rejection in patients undergoing allogeneic renal, cardiac, or hepatic transplantation, often as part of a multi-drug immunosuppressive regimen.
