Overview

SEMA5A shRNA is a short hairpin RNA designed to silence the expression of semaphorin 5A (SEMA5A), a member of the semaphorin family of axon guidance molecules. In the context of pancreatic cancer research, SEMA5A has been identified as a key regulator of metastatic dissemination, influencing both epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) at primary tumor sites and mesenchymal-to-epithelial transition (MET) at secondary metastatic sites. By utilizing shRNA-mediated knockdown, researchers have demonstrated that reducing SEMA5A levels can alter E-cadherin expression and cellular migration, thereby impacting the organ-specific homing and metastatic potential of pancreatic cancer cells. This tool is primarily used in preclinical research to investigate the molecular mechanisms of cancer progression and to evaluate SEMA5A as a potential therapeutic target.
