Overview

semaglutide + interleukin-2 is an investigational combination therapy comprising the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist semaglutide and the recombinant cytokine interleukin-2 (aldesleukin). Currently being evaluated in Phase Ib clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease, the combination aims to address neuroinflammation through a dual mechanism: semaglutide provides neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects via GLP-1 receptor activation, while low-dose interleukin-2 selectively expands and restores the function of regulatory T cells (Tregs). This multimodal approach is designed to dampen harmful immune responses and improve cellular survival in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. The therapy is being developed by The Methodist Hospital Research Institute.
