Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Semaglutide depot is a long-acting formulation of the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide, developed by Mapi Pharma. It utilizes a proprietary depot technology consisting of extended-release biodegradable microspheres designed for intramuscular injection once every 28 days (four weeks). By activating the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor, the drug enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses inappropriate glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and is also being explored for weight management and neurodegenerative conditions such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
