Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Semen Euphorbiae extract is a botanical extract derived from the dried mature seeds of *Euphorbia lathyris* L., a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. The extract contains bioactive compounds such as diterpenoid esters (Euphorbia factors L1, L2, and L3) and coumarins like esculetin. Research indicates that these extracts possess potent antitumor properties, particularly against renal adenocarcinoma and leukemia, by inducing apoptosis, causing G2/M cell cycle arrest, and inhibiting P-glycoprotein to reverse multidrug resistance. It has also been historically used to treat conditions such as hydropsy, ascites, and constipation. While studied extensively in academic and preclinical settings, it is not currently a commercial pharmaceutical product.
