Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Senkyunolide T is a bioactive phthalide derivative primarily isolated from the rhizome of *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong), a staple herb in traditional Chinese medicine. It is chemically characterized as a hydroxylated form of senkyunolide. Research indicates that Senkyunolide T possesses significant neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of inflammatory signaling pathways, such as the inhibition of NF-κB activation and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α and IL-1β. Additionally, it has been studied for its ability to mitigate oxidative stress-induced cellular damage and improve blood-brain barrier integrity in models of cerebral ischemia. While it is a key component of several herbal formulations used for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, it remains primarily in the preclinical research stage as an isolated compound.
