Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Senna + lactulose is a combination of two laxatives that work through different mechanisms to treat constipation. Lactulose is an osmotic laxative that draws water into the intestines from surrounding body tissues, thereby softening stools and increasing their volume to stimulate bowel movement. Senna is a stimulant laxative that works by irritating the lining of the intestines, which helps stimulate muscle contractions to facilitate stool passage. This combination may be more effective than either agent alone for treating chronic constipation, particularly in elderly patients.
